Walk and Talk Therapy
Well with Mel Psychology and Coaching understands that some people feel more comfortable and get more out of counselling if they can go for a walk and be in a non-office setting.
I have spent 4.5 years specifically providing psychological services for children and teenagers and. have seen firsthand how much more open adolescents can be when they are walking outside or engaged in a ball game while talking. I’ve also had adults that have shared how they would benefit from walk and talk therapy, because it makes the idea of counselling feel more natural and less threatening.
All Walk and Talk Psychology sessions are done in daylight hours, in quiet but public spaces at Minnamurra and Wollongong locations where there is an undercover area if it rains. You can also opt to do a phone or video telehealth consultation if it is raining the day of your session.
Medicare requirements for Walk and Talk Therapy
To access Medicare rebates for this service, your GP referral and Mental Health Care Plan must specify that you need outdoor based treatment. If you feel you would benefit from treatment in an outdoor environment, you can tell your GP why you think walking or outdoor therapy would be helpful for you.
